The generation of heat accounts for nearly half of all UK greenhouse gas emissions, but has been largely forgotten by efforts to tackle climate change so far.

A new Renewable Energy Strategy and a new Heat and Energy Saving Strategy are both being developed by the government with the aim of increasing our use of heat from renewable sources from the current 0.6% up to 14%.

This dramatic increase that will require major changes to the way we produce and consume heat.

Industry can expect a brand new subsidy scheme - the Renewable Heat Incentive - to transform the economics of renewable heating technologies while an expanded CERT scheme and possible replacement by the CESP scheme is also on the cards.

The use of renewable heating systems will also be crucial for the wider range of companies and public sector organisations facing new emission restrictions through the Carbon Reduction Commitment and the forthcoming requirements for new buildings to be zero carbon.

And, growing pressure on the nation's energy bills is also likely to accelerate the move to renewable heat.

Why should you attend?

Organised by New Energy Focus and the Renewable Energy Association, this conference will give delegates the chance to hear the latest thinking in UK heat policy and business from high-profile speakers from government departments DECC, DCLG and Defra, from local authorities and the private sector.

The conference will see debate on the options available, with possible solutions highlighted for maximising renewable heat opportunities ahead and for coping with the barriers.

Speakers will discuss the current and forthcoming legal framework, cost and funding issues, how air quality concerns can be addressed regarding biomass heat, and how the supply chain must be developed.

There will also be information provided on how to switch to renewable heating systems, from biomass boilers to district heating schemes.

Who should attend?

The event will address areas of interest for the heating supply sector as well as any organisation interested in using renewable heat as a cost effective alternative to ever more expensive fossil fuels.

Local authorities, housing associations, developers, architects, facilities and building managers will find out how to cut carbon footprints and energy bills, while leaving themselves less exposed to future carbon price increases and fossil fuel shortages.

Providers of renewable heat technologies, fuels and services will also be able to hear how forthcoming government policy will affect their businesses and opportunities, with the latest on new incentives and grants as well as new legal requirements and standards they may face.

Delegate fee: £245 or £195 for local authority (plus VAT)

Venue: 1 Wimpole Street, London
